The match between KKR and SRH ended with KKR ending up on winning side. The match saw some blistering knocks by Indian players at Chennai.
Let’s see how it progressed.
SRH won the toss and chose to field. The KKR openers made a 53 run opening until Shubman Gill fell for Rashid Khan scoring just 15 of 13 balls. Rahul Tripathi along with Nitish Rana played gem of an innings scoring 53 of just 29 balls. The big man Russell fell for just 5 runs of 5 balls but Nitish Rana kept scoring from one end until he fell into the trap of the afghan all rounder Nabi. Rana scored 80 of just 56 balls. Captain Morgon and Shakib Al Hasan couldn’t do much but Dinesh Karthik gave KKR a strong finish scoring 22 of just 9 balls and took KKR to 187-6 after 20 overs.
This is a good total at Chennai’s ground as the pitch at Chennai is a bit slow.
Time for SRH innings. Warner and Saha came in as openers but none of them could survive against KKR bowlers. While Warner was beaten by Prasidh Krishna’s pace, Saha fell for Shakib’s spin. SRH were 10-2 when Manish Pandey and Bairstow took over the responsibility of chasing down such a big total. They had a great partnership of 92 runs until Bairstow departed for 55 runs of 40 balls. Nabi couldn’t do much and departed scoring 14 of 11 balls. Vijay Shankar was no different and scored 11 of 7 and went back to the pavilion. Came in a 19 year old Abdul Samad and smashed the first ball by Cummings to a six giving some hope to SRH. He smashed 2 sixes to Cummins. 21 required of the last over but Russell didn’t let the pair hit any boundary until the last ball which went for a six from Manish Pandey’s bat. Pandey scored 61 of 44 not out while Samad scored 19 of just 8 balls but KKR won by 10 runs.
My Review
KKR played a good game except that the middle order didn’t click that much except Dinesh Karthik. For SRH, one of the main reason for this defeat was none of their openers made it count, especially Warner. Warner being their pillar, the team still struggles if Warner’s wicket falls early. The middle order of SRH is always a problem. They could have trusted Samad and have sent him above Shankar as they have already seen his six hitting capabilities at the death. One of the reasons was that SRH main pacers Bhuvneshwar and Sandeep Sharma went for too many runs. Although, Natrajan picked one wicket but went for more runs than expected.
